Duties
- Actively assist the Board in the performance of its duties.
- Scrutinize the activities of the Lead Directors.
- Participate on at least two UVSS committees.
- Represent the students in your faculty.
Lead Directors
– Coordinate UVSS campaigns and media relations.
– Work with all levels of government on key student issues (housing, transit, sexualized violence, post-secondary education).
– Represent the UVSS on external organizations, committees and coalitions.
– Oversee UVSS finances, operations, services, marketing, and strategic planning.
– Prepare the UVSS budget.
– Communicate financial info to members.
– Coordinate the UVSS Health and Dental plan and U-Pass program.
– Improve the environmental sustainability of UVSS operations.
– Plan and deliver UVSS events.
– Collaborate with diverse on- and off-campus partners.
– Work closely with UVSS communications and graphic design staff.
– Chair Board meetings.
– Run member outreach projects and coordinate volunteers.
– Work with and lobby UVic administration.
– Be the UVSS media spokesperson.
– Develop and implement UVSS bylaws and policies.
– Help new and established clubs and course unions.
– Chair Advocacy Relations Committee and support the five Advocacy Groups.
– Act as the liaison between Advocacy and Affiliated Groups and the Board.
– Represent international students at UVic to the administration, UVSS Board of Directors, and broader community.
– Chair International Student Relations Committee.
– Organize events for international students (holidays, fundraisers, etc).
– Assist the Lead Directors (and work on whatever YOU’RE passionate about!).
– Help coordinate and implement local, provincial and national campaigns.
– Keep the Lead Directors accountable.
– Participate on any UVSS committees and gain direct, practical experience.
Job benefits & training
Lead Directors
- 35 hours of paid training + 3 days of group training.
- Paid for part- or full-time work (your choice!). Part-time (20 hours) or full-time (35 hours/week) at a rate of $18.50, plus 1% increase effective May 1, 2022.
- You can take one Leave of Absence for one semester per Board term (May 1st-April 30th).
- Health & dental insurance.
- Five paid vacation days per semester.
- Overtime in lieu.
- A $150 per semester health and wellness benefit.
- Weekly discounts on food and drink in the SUB.
- This job could count as three co-op terms!
All Directors
- Three days of amazing, interactive group training.
- Volunteer for only two hours/week and receive a $50 monthly honorarium.
- Weekly discounts on food and drink in the SUB.

- Free bus tickets (if you don’t have a U-Pass).
- You can take one Leave of Absence for one semester per Board term (May 1st-April 30th).
