2025 General Election Unofficial Results

With a voter turnout of 22.8%, the unofficial results of the 2025 General Election can be found here: Results.

The results will become official as per the timeline stated within section 9.1 (d) of the Electoral Bylaw.

A Final Report will also be submitted by the Chief Electoral Officer as per section 9.4 of the Electoral Bylaw. Any UVSS member wanting to provide feedback regarding the electoral process will be reviewed and accepted until Wednesday, March 26, 2025 at 4:00 pm. Please submit your recommendations to the Chief Electoral Officer via the email below.

The Chief Electoral Officer would like to thank the following:

Get ready to vote! Between Monday, March 17 until March 19 at 3 p.m., you can cast your ballot for the 2025-2026 UVSS Board of Directors.

Voting is E-A-S-Y! You can vote anywhere, anytime over the course of the Voting Days. Voting can be done from the comforts of your home, when using public transportation, or during your study or work break.

  1. Simply access the link from your email or visit uvicusec.simplyvoting.com.
  2. Log in using your UVic credentials.
  3. VOTE!
  4. Click submit.

Who is running this election? 

The Voter Guide contains the names of the candidates for each contested position and their platforms. We also have the referendum questions posted and the platforms of each proponent posted in the Voter Guide.

How do I find out who won? 

The unofficial results for the 2025 General Elections will be announced at the Vertigo on March 19 at 4 pm. We’re making an event out of it so please join us!

If I experience any voting issues, what do I do? 

Please complete the Voter Issue Form under the Resources page so the Electoral Officers can look into it!

I am experiencing issues voting, any chance the Elections Team can assist me? 

Yes! We have Voting Information Stations stationed around campus which are being ran by Voting Information Officers. We will be at the SUB, Clearihue, Engineering Lab Wing, McPherson Library, and around the Fine Arts Building. Please visit the Voter Guide for the specific times.

Voter Guide Now Available

The Voter Guide is now available! The Voter Guide contains information of where, when, and how to vote in the UVSS General Elections. It also contains the platforms for the Candidates as well as the referendum proponents.

The Campaign Period has also started! Candidates will be out and about engaging with voters over the next couple of weeks until the end of the Voting Period (March 19 at 3pm).

Meet the Candidates

UVSS Voters can meet the candidates on March 11 at the SUB Upper Lounge from 1:00 to 4:00 pm. There will be free food! You can ask the candidates questions and engage with them in a formal or informal setting.

Voting is easy! Any UVSS member can use any available device they have that can access their UVic email. Voting is simple and can be completed in four easy steps:

  1. Log in to your UVic email;
  2. Locate the email from UVSS regarding the elections and your ballot;
  3. Click on the link and your ballot will pop up;
  4. Click to pick and hit submit!

Voting occurs from March 17 starting at 9 am and ending on March 19 at 3 pm.

Candidates for the 2025 General Election

As per 4.2 of the Electoral Policy, the nominations of the following candidates have been reviewed and approved by the Chief Electoral Officer.

The positions are listed based on the order they appear in the UVSS Bylaw, while names are listed alphabetically based on last name.

Those running unopposed for Lead roles are subject to the approval of UVSS members (commonly known as a “yes” or “no” ballot). Only international students that are UVSS members are eligible to vote for the Director of International Student Relations, while only those who are UVSS members in the Faculty of Social Sciences are eligible to vote for their Director of Social Sciences Student Relations.

A total of two (2) Directors-at-Large were received before the Nomination Extension was announced. As such, the following individuals have been acclaimed as per s. 4.2 of the Electoral Policy:

Upon the extension of the nomination period, the faculty-based positions that received zero nominations were converted into Directors-at-Large position as per s. 6.6 of the UVSS Bylaw. For the 2025 General Elections, a total of eight (8) slots were up for grabs. A total of five (5) nominations were received and approved, and as such, the following positions have been acclaimed as per s. 4.2 of the Electoral Policy.

The nomination forms of the following individuals were rejected by the Chief Electoral Officer:

Campaigning officially starts on February 27, 2025, while platforms of candidates will be released on February 28 and can be found in the Voter Guide page of the UVSS Election website. The Voter Guide will also include the list of Board-approved referendums that will be included in the ballot.

Any UVSS member is eligible to vote! Ballots will be made available to all UVSS member starting March 17 at 9:00 am. You can vote anywhere (and anytime) until March 19 at 3:00 pm.

Nomination Period Extended!

Nomination period has been extended until Thursday, February 20 at 5 p.m. for the following positions in accordance with section 4.4 of the Electoral Policy:

  • Director of Events;
  • Director of Student Affairs;
  • Director of Finance and Operations;
  • Director of Campaigns and Community Relations;
  • Director of Outreach and University Relations;
  • Director-at-Large (8 positions)**; and
  • Director of International Student Relations.

**Note that at least one nomination form has been received for a faculty-based director position. As such, s. 9.3 of the Electoral Policy is in effect upon the extension of the nomination period in that a corresponding Director at Large position will be added for the remainder of the election.

Candidate information will be released and posted under the Voter Guide page upon review and confirmation of eligibility. No late nominations will be accepted.

Nominations for Board of Directors positions still open!

Nominations are still on going for Board of Directors positions. Thinking about running, but unsure what the advantages are?

  1. It is an experience like no other while you’re in university. You get what you put in! You will learn soft skills that are transferrable to any industry you want to get into.
  2. These are paid position! Check out the Candidates Handbook on the specific rates for each position.
  3. You represent the students of UVic. The decisions you’ve made and the work you’ve put in may not be noticeable now, but they certainly will be of value to future UVic students.
  4. You learn first hand what is like to operate and manage a nonprofit organizations. You will be finishing your term with knowledge of governance and finance, and this is not common for all graduates. You’ll be setting yourself aside from others when applying for jobs!
  5. You will develop a network like no other.

Nominations Are Open for the 2025 General Elections

Nominations for the 2025 General Elections are officially open. Interested in running for any of the available positions on the UVSS Board of Directors? You may submit your nomination form via two ways:

  1. For convenience, we encourage and recommend prospective candidates and referendum proponents/opponents to use the online Nomination Form. Note that you will need to log in using a Google Account in order to use the online form as the function for file uploads require a log in.
  2. Candidates and referendum proponents/opponents may email the following information to the Electoral Officer:
    • your name, as you wish it to appear publicly including the ballot;
    • your full name, as it appears on your UVic record;
    • your student ID;
    • your email (the one that you use regularly);
    • your pronouns;
    • the position you’d like to run for (or the referendum you are supporting/not supporting);
    • any accessibility needs;
    • names and VNumbers of 15 UVic current undergrad students (please use Page 12 of the Candidate Handbook)
    • whether you have been a Lead Director before and when;
    • your headshot;
    • your platform (Maximum characters for Faculty Directors, Director of International Student Relations, and Directors-at-Large is 1,000 characters; Lead Directors is 1,500 characters);
    • Campaign Manager information; and
    • date and time of Orientation that you plan on attending.

The deadline to submit a completed Nomination Form is Thursday, February 13, 2025 at 5:00 pm.

The Elections Officers encourage all candidates to review the applicable documents listed under the Resources page to familiarize themselves with the Electoral Policy. It is the responsibility of each prospective candidate and referendum proponent/opponent to ensure they meet the eligibility so please reach out to the Chief Electoral Officer at election@uvss.ca if you have any questions.
